Using the “Piwik” analysis software

We use the “Piwik” analysis software. This software produces statistics about the history of visits to our website (so-called utilization profiles).

With the help of the “AnonymizeIP” module, we have configured Piwik in such a way that your IP address (the number which your internet provider has allocated to your computer) is only saved in abbreviated form. The utilization profiles generated by Piwik are thus pseudonymized, i.e. it is factually impossible to link the data to a specific person. By means of technical and organizational measures, the pseudonymized utilization profiles are separated from our other data (e.g. from the use of our services or personal data gained from the contact form) and we do not combine them.

The utilization profiles for example contain information about the search engines used, search terms used, languages used, internet providers used, origin of the visitors according to country, browsers and plug-ins used, referrer (website visited immediately before), duration on the site, entrance and exit pages and quit rate.

We use the information we have gained in this way to design our website in line with our visitors’ needs, e.g. to recognize which information is frequently queried or where there is room for improvement when using our website. We delete the pseudonymized utilization profiles generated by Piwik after 12 months.

Piwik uses a tracking cookie in order to recognize a user who has already visited our website in the past. This cookie is a small text file with a random code which is saved on your computer and is transferred to our server every time you access our site. The tracking cookie has a service life of one week.

With the following function you can object to the use of tracking cookies:

To implement this objection a respective cookie must be saved on your computer. If you delete all cookies on your computer your objection also ends, and you may possibly have to repeat the objection with the above mentioned function.

Piwik is an open source software (, which is recognized by the Independent State Centre for Data Privacy of Schleswig-Holstein (ULD) as being a solution generally in line with data privacy. Moreover Piwik is run on our own servers so that no data can reach external providers.
