Hardware Requirements

euroNAS Premium is not tied to specific hardware and is compatible with standard server hardware. This flexibility gives you the freedom to choose and upgrade your infrastructure as needed, ensuring a future-proof solution tailored to your requirements.

CPU

For optimal performance, we recommend using server-grade CPUs, such as:

  • Intel Xeon
  • AMD EPYC

These processors are designed to handle demanding workloads and ensure reliable operation in enterprise environments.

Installation Drive

euroNAS Premium should be installed on a dedicated SSD with a minimum capacity of 64 GB.

This drive is configured separately from the data drives and cannot be used to store VMs or data.
Using an SSD ensures faster boot times and improved overall system responsiveness.

Data Drives

The operating system requires its own dedicated drive. For storing data, you will need at least one additional drive. Options include:

A single hard disk
A software RAID array
A hardware RAID array
A ZFS RAID array

Recommendations for Data Drives:

Use server-grade HDDs or SSDs specifically designed for enterprise use.
Avoid desktop or notebook drives, as they are not built for the demands of server environments.

Hybrid Cache Functionality:

Take advantage of euroNAS Premium’s hybrid caching capabilities by combining:

High-capacity, slower SATA or SAS drives
High-speed SSD or NVMe drives for caching
This combination ensures both cost efficiency and improved performance.

System RAM

The server should have a minimum of 16 GB RAM. However:

If using ZFS, we recommend at least 64 GB RAM or more, as ZFS relies heavily on memory for caching and maintaining data integrity.
The more RAM available, the better the performance for ZFS and other memory-intensive tasks.

Networking

A minimum of one network interface card (NIC) is required, but for enhanced performance and reliability:

Use multiple NICs, which can be bonded to provide redundancy and increased bandwidth.
For optimal performance, consider deploying at least 10 Gbit NICs. These are particularly important in high-throughput environments.

By selecting the right hardware and following these guidelines, you’ll ensure that euroNAS Premium operates at peak performance while providing a reliable and scalable storage solution.
