Creating and Managing Snapshots

On-demand snapshots are created from the Snapshot page. eEKAS first asks which share, target or volume should be protected.

Create an on-demand snapshot

  1. Open Snapshots.
  2. Select Create Snapshot.
  3. Choose the resource or volume from the list.
  4. Confirm the snapshot creation.
  5. Return to the snapshot overview and verify the snapshot count and last snapshot time.

Capacity prerequisite

The test system currently shows a useful warning for the selected XFS volume: snapshot creation fails when no snapshot space is reserved. If this appears, reserve the required snapshot space or adjust the volume configuration before creating snapshots.

Management tasks

  • Use snapshot counts to detect resources without protection.
  • Remove obsolete snapshots when retention is too high or space is low.
  • Create a fresh snapshot before software updates, maintenance or client-side data migration.
