Virtual Switches and Software Defined Networks with eEVOS

eEVOS provides two approaches for connecting virtual machines to the network:
Virtual Network and Virtual Switches

A Virtual Network bridges a virtual machine network directly to a selected
physical network port on the host. It also provides cluster-aware network management but its targeting more simple installations that don't require complex networking.

Virtual Switches, implemented through euroNAS SDN, provide a
higher-level and cluster-aware networking model for virtual machines. They support managed
virtual switching, consistent switch presence across relevant nodes, reusable VM network
profiles, drift detection, repair workflows, and migration-aware network checks.

This chapter focuses specifically on Virtual Switches and the
euroNAS SDN functionality within eEVOS.

euroNAS SDN provides a controlled networking layer for clustered virtualisation. It ensures that
virtual switches, uplink assignments, and VM interface settings remain aligned across the
environment.

euroNAS SDN is integrated into the eEVOS management interface for switch administration, VM
network assignment, health checks, and migration workflows.
