IP Groups for Shares and Targets

An IP Group is a high-availability service group. It can contain one or more virtual IP addresses and is used by shares and targets to decide where client access should be attached within the cluster.

Create an IP Group

  1. Open Ceph Cluster or Shares & Targets and choose IP Groups.
  2. Select Create IP Group.
  3. Enter a clear group name.
  4. Select the preferred node for access.
  5. Enter one or more IP addresses separated by commas.
  6. Create the group and verify that it appears on the IP Groups page.

Design guidance

  • Use service-oriented names such as backup-services, vm-storage or office-shares.
  • Keep IP Groups aligned with client access patterns and network segments.
  • Use multiple IP Groups when different services should fail over independently.
  • Document the preferred node, service IPs and dependent shares or targets together.
